Dandelion

Seeds are the ultimate in potential.  They can lie dormant for months, years, even centuries in some cases, and when conditions are right, they can sprout and grow into an amazing living thing, tracking the sun and converting water and Carbon Dioxide into sugars.

I have always been amazed by the dandelion.  Self-pollinating, from an evolutionary standpoint it really doesn't need a flower, but still has one.  It can spread amazingly fast, as anyone with a lawn can attest.  They just strike me as one of the prime examples of what it is to be a plant.
